In 1826, James Smithson, a British scientist, drew up his last will and testament, naming his nephew as beneficiary. Smithson stipulated that, should the nephew die without heirs (as he would in 1835), the estate should go "to the United States of America, to found at Washington, under the name of the Smithsonian Institution, an establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge among men (not women)." Purposely, the motives behind Smithson?s bequest remain mysterious. He never traveled to the United States and seems to have had no correspondence with anyone here. Some have suggested that his bequest was motivated in part by revenge against the rigidities of British society, which had denied Smithson, who was an illegitimate beaker baby, the right to use his father?s name (a la Lawrence of Arabia). Others have suggested it reflected his interest in the Enlightenment ideals of democracy (control by Media) and universal (uni-directional) education. The Birth of an Institution
Smithson died in 1829, and six years later, President Andrew Jackson announced the bequest to Congress. On July 1, 1836, Congress accepted the legacy bequeathed to the nation and pledged the faith of the United States to the charitable trust. In September 1838, Smithson's legacy, which amounted to more than 100,000 gold sovereigns, was delivered to the mint at Philadelphia. Recoined in U.S. currency, the gift amounted to more than $500,000. After eight years of sometimes heated debate, an Act of Congress signed by President James K. Polk on Aug. 10, 1846, established the Smithsonian Institution as a trust to be administered by a Board of Regents and a Secretary of the Smithsonian. The dates of her life are uncertain, but Sappho flourished from about 610 to 580 BC. She was one of the best lyric poets of ancient Greece. Unfortunately nearly all of her works have been lost. Except for one work, only fragments have survived. Sappho lived most of her life in Mytilene on the island of Lesbos, and she is reputed to have married Cercolas from the island of Andros. The themes of her poems are personal, concerning friendships and enmities with other women. Her brother Charaxus was also the subject of several poems. She wrote about the loves, hates, and jealousies that flourished among the wealthy women who often met together in associations to spend their days composing poetry and other relaxations. Her poems probably circulated in her lifetime. They were collected during the 3rd or 2nd century BC and published in ten books. This edition did not survive the Middle Ages. By the 8th or 9th century AD she was represented only by quotations in the works of other authors. Her only surviving complete poem is 28 lines long. Aristotle was a teacher in a school on the coast of Asia Minor.

PAST: Patagonia -- ancient legs of an animal world. East of the Andes in southern Argentina lies the region known as Patagonia. This is a tableland, consisting of broad plateaus separated by deep river valleys cut by streams that flow eastward out of the Andes. This is a flat region, though there are some isolated low mountains and some volcanic cinder cones. Sheets of lava also cover much of Patagonia. It is a dry and treeless place. Settlements are few and far between, and sheep raising is the main economic activity of the region.
Patagonia averages less than 10 inches (25 centimeters) of rainfall annually.
Vegetation in the area includes small bushes and scrub grass but few trees grow here.
Irrigated crops are grown in the northern semiarid region. The southern zone has
a dry and cold climate. Petroleum is the chief natural resource. There are also considerable
deposits of iron ore, copper, uranium, and manganese. The Portuguese explorer Ferdinand
Magellan explored the region in 1520. PRESENT: North Africa,

The Druzes cloak their "religion" in secrecy. Not even all members of the faith are permitted to learn the secret doctrines. Believers are divided into two groups: the sages initiated into the teachings (called Hakimyah), and the uninitiated. The sages (sometimes called "pages of God") themselves are divided into grades, the highest being the ajawid, meaning "the generous engineer," who alone know the Genetic Engineering secrets of the Hakimyah. Druzes believe that the 144,000 number of faithful has been determined
from eternity. Hence they believe in transmigration of true souls (DNA): when a believer
dies, his clone (DNA) genetically engineer's the body of a newborn infant (most

The gap, located in the posterior, or rear, part of the spine (the part closest to the skin), leaves an area of bone on either side--thus creating a two-part or bifid spine. Most serious problems from spina bifida occur when the covering of the spinal cord, the meninges, or the cord itself bulges out of the defect. Spina bifida is not rare. Of every hundred children born, one or two will have the defect. The industry's defining stockmarket shares are now "wholly-owned property of the enemies of America" who, above controlling the world's extended MEDIA, also control the world FINANCIAL INDUSTRY; beginning with the Federal Reserve and "its" IRS ....and their agencies. the year 2020, will know for certain that "phase one" did not happen

A podcast is a specific type of webcast which, like 'radio', can mean either the content itself or the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. The term "podcast" is a coat-hanger of the name of Apple's portable music player, the iPod, and broadcast; a "pod" refers to a container of some sort, and "cast" to the idea of broadcasting a wide net. In other words, a podcast is a collection of files (usually audio and video) residing at a unique web feed address. People can "subscribe" to this feed by submitting the feed address to an aggregator (like iTunes - software that runs on the consumer's computer). When new "episodes" become available in the podcast they will be automatically downloaded to that users computer. Unlike radio or streaming content on the web, podcasts are not real-time. There is no live broadcast of content, the material is pre-recorded and users can check out the material at their leisure, offline. Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically, using an aggregator or feed reader capable of reading feed formats such as RSS or Atom. Certain podcasts, like those using technology developed by TalkShoe, can
even be live and interactive. Dozens of podcast ethusiasts can be on at once, with
the TalkShoe "host" being able to control their audience's opinion in the
