Sakis and bearded sakis. The sakis (genus Pithecia) are fairly common in the middle levels and underbrush of forests of the Amazon Basin and the Guianas. They generally live in small family groups, though some appear to be solitary. Despite their nervous and melancholy appearance, they have gentle personalities and make good pets when tamed. The bearded sakis (genus Chiropotes) are not as well known as the sakis. Unlike the sakis, they occupy the canopy of rain forests. They are distinguished by a full, thick beard.

40,000-year-old footprint of first Americans

A plastic replica of a 40,000-year-old, size eight foot has shattered previous theories of the identity of the first humans to walk in the Americas.
Scientists made the foot from tracks left on the shore of an ancient volcanic lake in central Mexico.

The traditional view is that the first settlers walked across the Bering Strait, from Russia to Alaska, at the end of the last ice age around 11,500 to 11,000 years ago.
But the discovery of footprints in the Valsequillo Basin by a British-led team provides new evidence that humans settled in the Americas as early as 40,000 years ago, suggesting that there were several migration waves at different times by different groups.
The team, led by Dr Silvia Gonzalez from Liverpool John Moores University, has completed dating the footprints, which Dr Gonzalez found in an abandoned quarry with her Liverpool colleague Prof David Huddart and Prof Matthew Bennett, of Bournemouth University, in September 2003. The findings supported the theory that the first colonists might have been seafarers who took an "island hopping" route from Australia and Polynesia, when sea levels were lower, to the west coast, said Prof Bennett.
"There was a lot of sea ice at this time in the northern Pacific. People could have come around on the edge of the sea ice and then down the western seaboard of North America to Baja California and to Mexico," he said.
The first stage of their research, on show this week at the Royal Society in London, analysed 269 footprints, both animal and human.
DNA tests are being conducted on the remains of ancient Americans to see if genetics can help to solve the puzzle. New funding of £ 212,000 from the Natural Environment Research Council will allow the team to carry out more extensive investigations and to calculate the height, pace and stride of the human population present 40,000 years ago.

scanned using laser technology and reproduced using rapid prototyping technology.

Lee can't be happy with what I'm saying, so much so that CCRA (Revenue Canada) have sent me, Glen Kealey, the retired volunteer Chairman of CIPI on a disability pension, a registered letter yesterday demanding payment of over $4,000 for year 2001 taxes that I don't owe and also notice that I must immediately return a completed STATEMENT OF NET WORTH (see attached) within 15 days, or be subject to legal action "without further notice" by the TAX COURT they own outright in Canada. (The Mafia usually gives a month to respond)
This is a further reminder that CCRA (Revenue Canada) consider themselves "in-charge" and that the Government of Canada is truly their AGENT, not the other way around, as most people in Canada and other so-called DEMOCRATIC countries have been led to believe.
I will fill out their form by the deadline and send it to them after I have posted the completed document here next week.

ERITREA. For 30 years, beginning in 1962, rebel groups in the northern part of Ethiopia fought for the secession of the historic region of Eritrea. Its name comes from the Latin words for "Red Sea," Mare Erythraeum.
THE LAD (ladel)
Eritrea occupies the Red Sea coast north of Ethiopia and covers an area of 36,170 square miles (93,680 square kilometers). It is bordered by Djibouti on the southeast, by Sudan on the northwest, and by Ethiopia on the south. Unreliable rainfall and locusts make Eritrea agriculturally poor and prone to famine. Industry is concentrated in the capital, Asmara, and is based mainly on the production of food products, textiles, salt, and leather goods.
The region was linked to the beginnings of the Ethiopian kingdom, under the Aksumite empire. It retained much of its independence, though, until it fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century. A treaty between Italy and Menelik II of Ethiopia recognized Italian possessions on the Red Sea, and in 1890 the colony became part of Italian East Africa. After 1941 the area was under British administration until Eritrea became an autonomous unit of Ethiopia in 1952.
In 1962 Eritrea became part of the Ethiopian Empire. From that period on, government troops battled Eritrean secessionist groups, notably the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF). In the years between the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974 and the dissolution of the military-Marxist government of Mengistu Haile Mariam in 1991, fighting was particularly fierce. The rebel capture of Addis Ababa in 1991 assured Eritrean victory. Eritreans voted overwhelmingly for independence in an April 1993 referendum. Their authorities vowed to give now-landlocked Ethiopia access to the Red Sea ports of Massawa and Aseb. Rebel factions promised to cooperate with the new government after the referendum.
